Portobelo is right on the Caribbean coast and surrounded by Jungle. The water is full of colourful life and the hills with a never ending variety of plants and animals. Lots of birds and monkeys!
There are many interesting things that are free to see and withing walking distance of the hostel. The town is surrounded by forts and there is a path that goes up from behind the hostel to an amazing view of the bay of Portobelo as well as a valley and view of the ocean on the other side.
Other activities:
Diving
-There is beautiful coral and fish life on the coast of Portobelo as well as wrecks to dive. There are two companies near us who take dive trips and courses.
Rafting
-We have a big raft we blow up and take down a nearby river. There’s a lot of wildlife to see and fun to be had! |

Fishing
-You can fish anywhere off the coast here, or you could go with our local guide who will take you in their family cayuco, a traditional boat made from wood, like a kayak. You always come back with a good amount to throw on the BBQ for dinner.
Hiking
-Go on a real treck with a guide. Go from village to village, through the hills, finding rivers to swim in and plenty of wildlife and adventure on the way.
Horse riding
-Local guides will take you on their trusty steeds into the surrounding hillsides. It’s always fun to ride a horse.
